The Subclass 300 Prospective Marriage Visa is for individuals who are engaged to an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, and wish to marry their partner in Australia. This visa allows the applicant to travel to Australia and marry their partner within 9 months of arriving. Once married, the applicant can apply for a partner visa to live in Australia permanently.

Requirements
The next step in applying for your subclass 300 Prospective Marriage (Temporary) visa is fulfilling all of the eligibility requirements. There are quite a few and you are going to have to be diligent and organised when going through the application process. The entry requirements for the subclass 300 Prospective Marriage (Temporary) visa are:
- be 18 years old or older
- have a sponsor who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- intend to marry your prospective spouse before the visa period ends
- have met your prospective spouse face to face as adults since turning 18, and are known to each other personally at the time you apply for this visa
- be outside of Australia when you apply for this visa, along with any family that apply with you
- be in or outside Australia when we decide your temporary visa
Process/Steps
Check Your Eligibility
- You must be sponsored by your Australian partner.
- Both parties must be at least 18 years old.
- You and your sponsor must prove that you are in a genuine and ongoing relationship.
- You must meet the health and character requirements.
- Your partner must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- You must intend to marry your sponsor within 9 months of arriving in Australia.
English Test
- Depending on your country of origin, you may need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency.
- You will be required to undertake an approved English language test such as IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE if your nationality requires it.
- The test results should meet the minimum score required by the Australian immigration authorities.
Submit Expression of Interest (EOI)
- Submit your EOI through the SkillSelect system if you are applying through an invitation-based process.
- Ensure that all the required details about your relationship and eligibility are included.
- This step is essential for the government to assess your eligibility before sending an invitation to apply.
Receive an Invitation to Apply
- Once your EOI is assessed and if eligible, you will receive an invitation to apply for the Subclass 300 visa.
- The invitation will specify the time frame within which you need to submit your visa application.
Gather Your Documents
Once you have received the invitation, it’s time to collect the required documents:
- Your passport, birth certificate, and other government-issued IDs.
- Evidence demonstrating the nature of your relationship, including joint financial statements, proof of shared residence, photographs together, and travel history. You may also need statements from friends and family supporting the legitimacy of your relationship.
- Documents such as bank statements, pay slips, and joint ownership records showing financial interdependence between you and your partner.
- Depending on your medical history, additional documents may be required.
- Police clearance certificates from each country you’ve lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.

Await Visa Processing
- Once your application is submitted and all documents are provided, the Department of Home Affairs will begin processing your visa.
- Processing times may vary depending on the complexity of the case, volume of applications, and any additional checks required.
- During this time, be prepared for possible requests for further information or clarification.
Visa Grant
- If your application is successful, you will receive your Prospective Marriage Visa.
- Upon grant, you will be able to enter Australia to marry your sponsor and apply for a Partner Visa once married.
