Requirements
The first step in applying for your 491 Skilled Regional (TR) visa is fulfilling all of the eligibility requirements. You need to be diligent and organised when going through the application process. The entry requirements for the subclass 491 Skilled Regional (TR) Visa are:
- meet English language requirements (Competent English or higher).
- meet health and character requirements.
Streams
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa - State Nominated
- be under 45 years of age at the time of invitation
- have an occupation on a relevant skilled occupation list
- have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation
- achieve a minimum of 65 points on the points test
- be nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or an eligible relative must sponsor you
- be invited to apply
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa – Family Sponsored
- be one of the members of the family unit, of a subclass 491 visa holder.
- If you are in Australia when you lodge your application you must hold a substantive visa or a subclass 010 Bridging A visa, a subclass 020 Bridging B visa or a subclass 030 Bridging C visa.

- If you are selected from the EOI pool, you will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for the Subclass 491 visa. You must submit a complete visa application within the timeframe specified in the invitation.
- The invitation is based on your points score and the current demand for your occupation in regional areas.
Applying for Visa
- After receiving the ITA, start gathering all the documents required for your visa application.
- Documents Needed:
